The MSE programme draws faculty from five of AUTh's strongest departments. All are active researchers whose work shapes the field they teach — from polymer chemistry and electron microscopy to additive manufacturing and computational materials science.
Founded in 1943, the Department of Chemistry is AUTh's flagship science department — ranked first in Greece (US News 2025) with faculty among the world's most-cited researchers in physical chemistry, electrochemistry, polymer science, organic chemistry, biochemistry and materials chemistry.

One of Greece's largest and most research-active physics departments, with world-class expertise in electron microscopy, magnetic materials, optical spectroscopy, solid state physics, thin film technology, and nanostructures. Provides the MSE programme with its core characterisation and solid-state physics curriculum.

One of AUTh's most research-active engineering departments, with deep expertise in metallic materials, additive manufacturing, composite structures, sustainable engineering and thermomechanical processing. Co-founder of the Aluminium Centre of Excellence with Alumil, and faculty advisor to the award-winning Aristotle Racing Team.

The MSE programme draws on the expertise of faculty from departments beyond the three core partners. These contributors bring specialised knowledge in areas critical to the curriculum — mineralogy and critical raw materials from the Department of Geology, and chemical engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
