Frequently asked questions
Questions we hear most often.
If your question is not answered here, contact us directly — our admissions team responds within one working day.
The programme
Yes — 100%. All lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, assessments, examinations and official communications are conducted in English. You do not need to know any Greek to complete the programme, though you will certainly pick some up living in Thessaloniki.
40 students per academic year. This is a deliberately small cohort — designed to ensure close contact with faculty, full access to laboratory resources, and a genuinely personalised academic experience.
Yes. AUTh is a public university of the Greek state, and its degrees are fully recognised across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Integrated Master is accredited at EQF Level 7 and is automatically recognised for academic and professional purposes across all EU member states and in most countries worldwide that have signed mutual recognition agreements with the EU.
The first cohort begins in September 2026. There is one intake per year, in September. The academic year runs from September to June, divided into two semesters.
Admissions & applications
Yes. We accept applications from students who are still completing their secondary education. You can apply with predicted or current results — your acceptancewill be conditional on achieving the required final grades. You will need to provide your final results before 31 July 2026 to confirm your place.
No. There is no entrance examination. Admission is based on your secondary school results, your personal statement, your English language certificate, and (for some applicants) a short online interview with the admissions committee.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Complete applications — with all required documents — are typically reviewed within 4–6 weeks of submission. Incomplete applications are paused until all documents are received. We strongly recommend applying early and ensuring all documents are submitted together.
Yes — but all documents not in English or Greek must be accompanied by a certified translation into English. The translation must be certified by a sworn or official translator, or by the issuing institution. We cannot review documents in other languages without a certified translation.
Fees & finances
Yes. The tuition fee of €8,000 per academic year applies to all students regardless of nationality — EU citizens and non-EU citizens. There is no differential pricing for this international programme.
AUTh is actively exploring scholarship and partial fee waiver options for academically exceptional applicants. Details will be published as they are confirmed. If you are interested in being considered for financial support, please indicate this in your application and contact the admissions team directly.
A comfortable student life in Thessaloniki — private room in a shared flat, eating well, transport and basic expenses — costs approximately €500–700 per month. This is significantly below the cost of living in Western European university cities. Many students live comfortably on less, particularly in shared accommodation.
Life in Thessaloniki
Yes. Thessaloniki is consistently ranked among the safest large cities in south-eastern Europe. The university area is well-lit, well-served by public transport, and has a large, active international student community. The city is generally welcoming and tolerant toward international students and visitors from all backgrounds.
No. The entire programme is in English, and daily life in Thessaloniki is very manageable without Greek — particularly in the university district. AUTh offers optional Greek language courses for international students who wish to learn, and we encourage it as it significantly enriches your experience of the city.
Yes. Thessaloniki has a well-established international food culture and a variety of restaurants and shops serving halal food — including Turkish, Arab and South Asian cuisine. The city has had a Muslim community for centuries, and there are mosques and Islamic community spaces in the city centre.
